There are two types of skunks in Utah. The striped Skunk and the Spotted skunk. Both are native to Utah and found in Salt Lake City. Skunks are highly adaptive and often live close to humans. They feed on insects, plants and rodents. Skunks will scavenge pet food left outdoors and rummage through garbage looking for food. Skunks can carry many different types of diseases like rabies and tularemia and carry parasites including lice, fleas, ticks and tapeworms. Besides their strong, terrible smell, they can have an aggressive personality and you should not get to close. Skunks can spray for a distance of up to 20 feet.
